I couldn’t agree more. From the Legal Writing Institute listserv this morning:
“A high undergrad GPA was no guarantee of good writing skills, nor was a master’s degree.
Bottom line: Transcripts—even stellar ones—don’t always reflect a skill-set essential to law school and bar exam success. A post-admission exam would identify students who lack basic writing skills, and areas of concern for boot camp instructors. And while online grammar programs can certainly help, an intensive pre-semester writing class (boot camp) would be far more effective in preparing students for what’s to come, in my opinion.”
